Redevelopment
Eastpoint Redevelopment Update December 2008 PDF Print E-mail

A £10.55 million redevelopment of Thornhill’s Eastpoint Centre has been approved by the Thornhill Plus You Board, which is made up of contributions from Thornhill Plus You (a £4.55 million grant), the trustees of Eastpoint Centre (£3.5 million) and a commercial loan (£2.5 million) from Thornhill Plus You. The return on the loan will be used to continue the work of Thornhill Plus You when the government money has ended. The redevelopment of the Eastpoint Centre is a major project for the city, which will also see the relocation and rebuild of Itchen College. This investment will not only see the creation of a hub for learning and development, but will develop the site into a flagship community and conference centre. The site will also offer a range of modern, up-to-date facilities for local people and will increase employment opportunities for both the community and for young people throughout the region.

Eastpoint Centre and Itchen College - What’s Happening?
Eastpoint Centre Ltd, Itchen College, Thornhill Plus You and Southampton City Council are working together to ensure that by September 2011 Itchen College will be relocated, in a new building co-located with a new Eastpoint Centre with more good quality facilities for the community.

Eastpoint and the Community
The new Eastpoint Centre will provide dedicated community space that will be accessible, modern and fit for purpose. There will be potentially 8 community rooms with storage that will be able to be booked on a daily basis, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. seven days a week. An enhanced Social Club with contemporary surroundings will continue to offer a responsible licensed service, including hot bar meals with healthy options. Community/party rooms attached to the Club will be available for residents to use for private celebrations at weekends. The new Eastpoint Centre will also offer employment and career development opportunities to the local community in hospitality, catering, customer services, administration and management.
