Carnival Season Continues… PDF Print E-mail

It’s been a busy few months on the Thornhill carnival scene, and there is going to be more for you to get involved in as the nights draw in …

Carnivalling at Thornhill Festival
On Saturday, 19 July we made carnival headdresses and twirlers with families and had a parade around the green, giving the whole event a taste of the carnival spirit. Some people enjoyed the activities so much that they decided to join us for carnival workshops taking place throughout the summer.

On Sunday, 6 April the Thornhill Carnival came home, parading around Thornhill along with the 3rd Thornhill Guides, the Saturday Morning Club, an enormous fire engine and BAT2K samba drummers, organised by the Thornhill Community Festival team. Despite waking up to snow in the morning, the ‘carnivalers’ were not put off. By the afternoon the sun was shining as the group took to the streets of Thornhill. Many residents came out to watch from their gardens and balconies to see what was going on and waved the  colourful participants past as the group toured from Warburton Road, via Tatwin Crescent, Byron Road, Solent Avenue, Marston Road, eventually finishing up at Hinkler Parade for a wellearned cup of tea!

The Thornhill Carnival would like to say a big thank you to the Thornhill Policewho did a fantastic job of keeping the roads clear and safe for the group.

Watch out this autumn – the Thornhill Carnival will have its home coming parade, with Thornhill residents displaying the beautiful costumes that they have made in the summer workshops!
