The group has been consulting with local residents on provisional plans for the Green at events throughout the autumn, including roadshows on Hinkler Green and Hinkler Parade, Street Sport and during the Peaceful Garden development. They are also working closely with Southampton City Council to make sure the plans fit with other green spaces and policies across the city.
The priorities that have been identified so far include renewing and upgrading the paths with high quality tarmac finish to make them smoother and more accessible for all, especially wheelchairs and pushchairs. Other priorities include putting in vehicle prevention railings, making the ‘entrances’ to the Green more welcoming with sculptures and tree planting and landscaping the area currently used as a football pitch, to include a nature conservation area, ‘trim trail’ and a kick-about area. This area is currently liable to flooding and is often potholed, so the improvements should contribute to the group’s aim of making the Green a safe and useable space for all of the community to enjoy.
