Thornhill Bus Users’ Group PDF Print E-mail

This group of proactive residents meets with bus service providers every three months to discuss issues relating to bus services in Thornhill. At their last meeting they focused on the new number 15 service. Launched in September following public concern, this route runs from Weston to Thornhill, then on to Bitterne, covering the areas of Hinkler Road and Hightown that lost a service when the 19 route was suspended.

Solent Blue Line has designated drivers for this route so that residents can get to know familiar faces and the service uses only low-floor buses. Members of the bus users’ group observed how punctual the new service is but were concerned that the service did not run late enough. The group felt that the addition of a couple more trips in the morning and evening would enable children and families to access schools better. Southampton City Council, who set the route and timetable, has been invited by the group to meet with them in December to share ideas and suggestions on how to improve the service further.

COMMUNITY ACTION IN THORNHILL PDF Print E-mail

Back in March residents attended a public meeting to encourage opinion leaders to reinstate the number 19 bus.
Thanks to public support from residents, Southampton City Council has agreed to co-ordinate a new bus service, Service 15, to fulfil this need.

This service will begin on Monday, 1 September running Mondays to Saturdays (not including Bank Holidays) and will link Weston, Hightown, Thornhill and Bitterne.
